Meet Patrick, the biggest hamster I have ever seen!! He is a gorgeous syrian male, born around July 2012. Really good natured he can be quite slow and we have a suspicion he may be completely blind as he appears to lick and sniff his way around far more than any of the other hamsters.
He's got a nick in his ear which makes him look very dashing, but it is a result of a fight he had with his Dad when the previous owner decided they might like to play together. Pat got off lightly, apparently he broke the Dad's leg!!
He is a lovely banded colour and a great snuggler. I rescued him from a lady whose other half wanted her to get rid of most of her hamsters (she had three, a Dad and two sons- she had already sold the other babies and the Mother). I bought him for £5 in the tiniest cage imaginable. It was smaller than anything recommended for dwarf hamsters and only had a bed, food bowl and water bottle, no toys or chews.
Since I adopted him, he has moved out of the mini cage into a homemade bin cage (using a Wilkos storage box with holes in the lid), with a flying saucer, sandbath, jam jar, LOTS of toilet tubes, plastic tubes, chews and treats. He loves it! Especially the saucer.
He is such a cutie. On his first night here we were having a cuddle together under some blankets and he went off exploring. Next thing I know he's made a nest for himself amongst the blankets, curled up on my foot and gone to sleep!!
He does sometimes show a very determined side and can be very strong willed.
Because he is so big, he is also quite physically strong which usually takes people by surprise.
He's obsessed with chewing! Usually cardboard and toilet rolls, but he's recently had a hay house put in his cage which isn't lasting very long as he is chewing it to pieces! Makes for nice bedding though apparently.
